Eco-Friendly Inverter Controller Boards for Air Conditioners
Eco-Friendly Inverter Controller Boards for Air Conditioners

Mar 14, 2020

The global air conditioning systems market size was $102.02 billion in 2018 and is expected to register a CAGR of 9.9% from 2019 to 2025. The rising number of auditoriums, hospitals, hotels, and multiplexes across the globe is anticipated to accelerate the market growth for air conditioning soon. Also, the increasing disposable incomes of individuals are expected to encourage the uptake of various air conditioning systems. The rising inclination of consumers towards energy-efficient systems, such as eco-friendly inverter controller boards, and the growing popularity of portable systems are expected to impact the air conditioning systems market growth positively. While most of the world craves indoor comfort at economical costs, eco-friendly inverter air conditioners garner special attention in India. Recently-enacted energy efficiency regulations mandate the future construction of green buildings with significantly lower power and water consumption. At the same time, the climate of India requires additional topicalization of compressors and other AC components against extreme heat and humidity. Most of India’s summer is very hot. It begins in April and continues until the beginning of October when the monsoon rains start to fall. The heat peaks in June with temperatures reaching up to 45°C (113°F) or higher. [2]

In 2019, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of four Public Sector Enterprises under the administrative control of India’s Ministry of Power, announced the launch of the Super-Efficient Air Conditioning (SEAC) program. The program is aimed at promoting the use of energy-efficient technologies and bring about a reduction in energy consumption. Through this program, the Ministry of Power also aims to address India’s Hydrochlorofluorocarbons Phase-Out Management Plan and Cooling Action Plan by 2032. [3]

Syrma’s AC Inverter Controller Boards

A few years ago, India’s leading home and commercial appliance brand approached us with design challenges for an energy-efficient power inverter, a vital component of air conditioners that essentially re-converts DC back into AC, necessary to modulate compressors and other internal induction motors. We created a new design team specifically for this project, collaborating with the client to successfully co-develop the new inverter. We were also contacted by a major European residential and commercial HVACR system maker with a similar opportunity. Our initial foray into inverters led us to realize there’s a rapidly growing need among the world’s HVACR OEMs for redesigned, energy-efficient power components at reasonable costs.

We offer two variants of inverter controller boards: a high-frequency controller for maximized energy efficiency and a low-frequency controller designed for optimized cost competitiveness and better efficiency throughout the temperature range. Circuit-board microcontrollers enable the inverter to automatically regulate the volume of the BLDC compressor motor, compensating for fluctuating climate conditions, the highest speeds in sweltering weather to lower speeds in cooler temperatures, reducing normal power consumption by 30-50%. This board decreases operating noise by using four different temperature sensors to ramp up/down compressor motor speed quietly. It also limits daily wear and extends service life by more than 5 years.

This board is universally adaptable to any manufacturer’s air conditioner model, and it can drive various types of compressors available in the market, including BLDC and IPM types. It’s based on the latest technology using a wide-efficiency range, and it can be optimized for customized solutions. Our inverter uses a proprietary control algorithm that runs on an efficient digital signal controller. The power factor correction topology uses a smaller number of components, and the intelligent power module integrates gate drive control, power supplies, and inverter switches into a single chip. The remote controller is part of the indoor unit controller, which communicates with the outdoor unit controller via power line communication.

Backed by 40 Years of Expertise

We contribute our 40 years of design and manufacturing expertise spanning multiple diverse markets. We look forward to discussing how we can deliver world-class products for OEMs across the globe. We understand our home Indian market, familiar with its vast regulatory and selling environments. We foster growth opportunities within India through our strong technology incubation ecosystem. We also assist global OEMs in entering the Indian market by leveraging the local supply chain and favorable operating environments for cost reductions.

Our flagship Chennai location opened in 2006 and lies within a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for electronics manufacturing, offering economic incentives for imports and exports. This primary facility is within 90 minutes of the Chennai seaport and 20 minutes to the international airport. Additional road and rail connectivity links to the rest of India and beyond and infrastructure advantages with faster import and export clearances. We also have labor force flexibility, both technical and manual, to scale to demand rapidly.
